The HydroWest Team

Eric Jacobson — Founder

Eric Jacobson was born and raised in the mountains of Colorado and found a passion for hydrology and engineering at a young age. He went on to study engineering and worked for a handful of engineering firms, oil companies and hydroelectric companies before founding Hydrowest in 1982. His focus has always been on finding green solutions for energy demand, and rehabilitating antique power-plants. Over the last four decades he has owned, operated, and consulted on dozens of projects both in the United States and abroad; and has developed over 400 mW of power generation projects via HydroWest and other stand-alone subsidiaries. These subsidiaries include Cogen Technologies, where he was VP of Engineering, and Colorado Greenhouse Inc., where he was VP of Operations. Eric’s main passion, though, has always been hydroelectric generation. His expertise is with the mechanical and hydraulic elements of projects; including turbines, ditches, dams, and penstocks.

Sam Perry

Sam Perry has been obsessed with hydro since his freshman year of highschool when he helped build a small Crossflow turbine on an irrigation ditch as a school project. Sam's family has a long history in hydro in Colorado, starting when his great grandfather D.R.C. Brown built the first hydroelectric plant in America in Aspen in 1879. D.R.C. used the power to run his silver mine and later, to power the city of Aspen. After College Sam founded his own company Sollos Energy, LLC to restore, operate and develop grid scale hydroelectric systems. Sam joined the Hydrowest team in 2012.
